Kitchen + Kocktails by Kevin Kelley, the southern comfort food concept started in Dallas and has since expanded to also include a location in Chicago, has announced that it is coming to the nation’s capital this summer.
“With consistent treks to the nation’s capital and countless requests to bring Kitchen + Kocktails to the area, logic, and emotion said Washington, D.C. is the place to be,” said restauranteur and Kitchen + Kocktails founder Kevin Kelley. “We’ve quietly but consistently served, observed, and fine-tuned our processes. Now that our team has proven themselves, it is my job to ensure our talented team at Kitchen + Kocktails can humbly and respectfully serve the D.C. area.”
The menu at Kitchen + Kocktails includes classic soul food entrees such as southern fried chicken that can be flavored at the customer’s request, oxtail, fresh lobster tail, shrimp and grits, Caribbean
jerk lamb chops, tender braised short rib served, and its signature K+K vegan bowl. For its cocktails, Kitchen + Kocktails features many black-owned spirits such as D’USSÉ, Uncle Nearest, and SweetBeat Vodka.
Kitchen + Kocktails’ DC location will be on the ground floor level of 1300 I St, NW, at Franklin Square, a space formerly occupied by Chef Richard Sandoval’s Toro Toro. At 7,945 square feet, the restaurant will have seating for more than 175 people and include two full-service bars, a private dining area, and a lounge. The official opening is expected to happen in June with dining hours from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday through Sunday.
